Women, Men and communication

I found this cool article about how men and women communicate and it ties in to a conversation I had with my hubby today about his, ahem, lack of communication, :)

You can go read the whole thing here.

Girls' friendships focus on making connections -- talk is essential to this process. Sharing secrets, relating experiences, revealing problems and discussing options are essential during girls' development.

Boys generally take another approach to friendship. Their camaraderie is not less profound; it's just different. Buddy groups tend to be larger, focusing on activities rather than conversation.

Top 10 Ways Men and Women Communicate Differently

10. Nonverbal Communication

Women's actions {direct eye contact, sympathetic looks, hugs etc} all focus on maintaining the relationship. Women give attention and encourage participation from other women.

Men are goal orientated. Their actions depend on what needs to be done.  Does he want to appear to be in charge? Then he uses his body movements to control the discussion.  If he wants to seem empathetic he will keep a calm face. [source: McManus].

9. Body Orientation

Picture this: It's happy hour after work. On one side of the room, there's a group of women, deep in conversation. Their chairs are all turned toward each other, and they continually make eye contact. On the other side of the room, there's a group of four men. They sit at angles to each other. During much of their discussion, their eyes roam around the room, glancing at each other infrequently. Each cluster is engaged in its preferred style of talk. It's great for tonight, but when group members are engaged with the opposite gender these preferences may cause problems.

One specific aspect of nonverbal communication is body orientation. If a man won't make eye contact or face his female conversational partner, she (perceiving conversation as integral to relationships) may interpret this as a lack of interest. He may become annoyed that she is rejecting his efforts; to him, his relaxed body position is actually helping him concentrate. The differences in physical alignment can make it difficult for talkers to reconcile the two styles [source: Tannen].

8.Arguments

Women often try to get their point across by asking many types of questions: defiant, informational and rhetorical. The questions are designed to present an opposition or gather data. Men's contributions to arguments are often simple and direct. They're so straightforward, in contrast to women's questions, that men might not even realize that a conflict is occurring.
When, finally, both parties realize they are disagreeing, their communication styles have great impact. Men are concerned with being right and less concerned about anyone else's feelings. This perceived lack of compassion upsets women. Men dislike questions, interpreting them as censure, and they react by closing down emotionally. This pattern leads women to become increasingly suspicious and wary. Time to go to separate corners [source: Booher, Whitworth].

7. Apologizing
Women use apologies to try to create or maintain connections. Men, on the other hand, are concerned with what an apology might do: It might lower them to a subordinate position, a place where they've never wanted to be since boyhood. [source: Tannen].

6. Giving Compliments
From a young age, females learn to give compliments; it's almost reflexive. Compliments are a way of reaching out to one another, an offer of affirmation and inclusion. Men are more likely to volunteer evaluations instead of hand out compliments. Similarly, they will not seek out compliments because they want to avoid being critiqued themselves.
Naturally, these differing approaches complicate communication. If a woman asks a question with the hope of being praised or flattered, a man may well see it as a way to offer advice. This affects their relative power: The advice-giver is automatically shifted to a higher position, with the woman having lower status [source: Tannen].

5. Problem Solving
Men and women approach an analytical discussion differently. As just illustrated, men tend to focus on facts and seek immediate resolutions; action is the conversational goal. Women desire more extensive talk about problems, sharing feelings and finding common experiences.

Even if there's a mutual dilemma to resolve, such diverse communication goals can lead to frustration. Men don't understand why women don't want to solve problems, why they seem ungrateful for direct help. Women are hurt by the perceived disregard for emotions and frustrated when they believe they are being pushed to decide too quickly [source: Torppa].

4. Getting Your Way

Men and women have very different ways of trying to get what they want, which can make it difficult to come to an agreement.

Women are typically in conversation mode; they are more likely to ask questions. Their goal is to get others to decide through agreement.

Men often interpret this approach as manipulation. They will make statements rather than suggestions. Their objective is to get their way directly and quickly. If that doesn't work, they'll exit the discussion; they may either be angry or simply less passionate about the subject.

These discussions, then, often do not go smoothly. Men are resentful, believing women are trying to trick them. If men won't participate in back and forth negotiations, women feel slighted. This could easily turn into an argument-something that no one intended [source: Tannen].

3. Chatterbox

Who talks more, men or women? Take into consideration all interactions during the day, with family, work, friends and businesses. Would you guess women are more loquacious? A lot of people would. And a lot of people would be wrong.

Research indicates that there is no significant difference between women and men in the amount of words spoken, although, when they do talk, men tend to use more words at a time. The major difference appears to be when men and women do their talking. Women spend more talking time with family and close friends, expressing support and discussing experiences. Men tend to talk more at work and in formal and social settings, and their goal is the exchange of information, even when conversing with a buddy.

At home, women do talk more and become perturbed with less responsive partners. Women try to work on their relationships, while men see little need to speak unless there is a specific purpose -- a problem to solve, a decision to make [source: Tannen].

2.Interrupting

"Where are the bandages? I cut my-"
"Huh?"
"I was working on the-"
"Ooh, it's bleeding a lot."
"I know, that's why-"
"Here are the bandages. Do you want-"
"I'll do it."
"I could-"
"What are we doing for dinner?"

Most people dislike being interrupted, but most people do it at one time or another. Women interrupt to show concern, but they think men disrupt the discussion by shifting the subject. Men do try to control the conversation by disrupting it. They also believe a woman's supportive interjections (for example, "go on") are interruptions.

Frequent interruptions, no matter the cause, no matter the target, can lead to frustration. This can build to anger and, unless the guilty party gets things under control, the discussion will come to a screeching halt. Or perhaps just screeching [source: Cowie].

1. Email

E-mail. So helpful, convenient and quick. E-mail. So overused, annoying and redundant. It's also pervasive. A 2009 study found 1.4 billion people worldwide use e-mail, sending 247 billion messages daily [source: Radicati]. Due to the enormous number of e-mails sent, it's perhaps not surprising that the tone of most messages is conversational, with little attempt to revise that pattern.

Mistakes occur in spoken language, and they also turn up in e-mail.
Most of the e-mail women send revolves around relationships: being supportive, making suggestions, apologizing, asking questions and offering thanks.

Men's e-mail messages are very different. Not only do men more often portray themselves as subject experts, but they have a more contentious interaction style, employing sarcasm, profanity and insults. Men may be looking for information from others through e-mail, but they are also seeking influence and respect.

Communication, whether non-verbal, verbal or typed into a computer, is open to interpretation. That is especially true when men and women are evaluating each other. Awareness of variability in communication styles can be the difference between an effective, fulfilling conversation and a distressing upsetting, prolonged argument [source: Rosetti].

So what did you learn? Nothing? Hahahahaaa. Me either. It's completely true. All of it. But I think we knew that!  Anyone want to share how they get their hubbies to communicate better? It doesn't have to be important issues, it could just be regular stuff.

I'm sure my love and I are just in the " I haven't seen you in a while and its so hard to be apart that it hurts to talk about it" stage.......

But I'm taking advice anyways :)

I am not a Blogger anymore---

And its KILLING me!! I cannot believe its been a little more then 2 months since I last posted! Sigh. Thats what happens when your laptops battery kicks the can and it costs $100 to replace it. :(  Broke battery + no job= no blogging. I do have good news. I had a job interview at Home Instead Senior Care. They are waiting for my background check to come in, but I feel like the job is mine once it comes in!! The interview went well and they already called my references (SIX!!) I called this past Monday and they still have no gotten it in. :( Ahhh, hurry up and wait. Its my lifes motto! LOL.

Good news, Ive finally gotten a test date for my CNA!!! Nov. 5th is the big day. Ive been studying my booty off! Im nervous and so excited at the same time!

Mikey got ALL A's and B's on his first report card! YIPEE! Im sooo proud of him!! Zachary did good too, but we have been having issues with talking and not listening at school......yeah.

Michael came down to visit the end of august until mid sept. it was like normal. we were a family. Since then, he has committed again to our marriage. When he gets out of the Army on medical retirement { Feb-June 2012} he will be coming down here and we will be back in action. I know a lot of people think im crazy or making the wrong decision but we have been through so much together. we love each other. We just need to learn to handle things differently and more maturely.

I am just about all signed up for school in January. Im just waiting on my HS transcripts making their way to the college. Sooooo once they get there, 4 weeks from that day, my financial aid should be awarded. Nov 11 is the start of registration. Im excited. I have to take a prep math class {bc I suck at Algebra} but I am on college level for my english and reading! Not bad for being out of school for almost 11 years! ;)

Looking forward to Trick or Treating on Monday nite. Haileys going to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Zachy is going to be The white power ranger { a tiger i think??} and Mikey is BumbleBee from Transformers! Should be fun!

Anyways, that was a super quick update. Sorry. KNow that I miss all you in blogland and i hope I still have some followers. LOL Bear with me......I will have a computer again in a few months! {Im on my brothers rite now!}

Michael and I have been talking. For hours yesterday and today. My mind is racing with so many thoughts and my heart is feeling so many feelings. He said he misses us and wants us to come home.

Part of me wants to believe him, but part of me feels like he is is just saying it. I dont know. I hadn't heard from him in 8 days. EIGHT. That is not acceptable to me. At all. Its not want I want out of a relationship, out of my marriage.

Dont get me wrong. Mchael has so many good qualities about him, but his shortcomings are big ones. I do not deserve to be lied to. I do not deserve to feel less the amazing. I do not deserve to be belittled. I know I have my faults as well. Im controlling, jealous and insecure. I know I dont make Michael feel his best either. We have a lot of work to do and things to try to address. I asked him today if when hes down here, would he be willing to go to marriage counseling. He said he would go.

My mind is going crazy. My head and my heart are in conflict. Not a good thing. He's coming down between the 26-31st. It will be a very hard and good visit at the same time. Wish me luvk folks and send prayers my way.....

Anyways, boy start school tomorrow and I am going to fill out an application at the local Humane Society. I sen in my resume but they also need an on site app filled out as well. HOPEFULLY it will go good. Lord knows Ive been trying to get a job forever!

I will keep you all posted with things as they develop.

Thanks for stopping by----

T minus 2 days---

The time is unpon us. I am typing to you all from the Lagerhof Hotel. Yes, we cleared housing!!! We leave here early Sunday morning to fly back to the States. Its a bittersweet feeling honestly. On one hand, I will get to be around my family again. On the other, I am officially seperated. Honestly, Im ready. It is obvious that we just are not good for each other at this point in our lives. Hopefully this time apart will help, not hurt us.

Only time will tell.

I broke my toe. My big toe.Funny story. Nnot really, but still.  After we cleared housing,  we had a bunch of food we brought over here to the hotel.{we have a kitchenette in our room} Michael was handing things through the window to me and didnt notice the hole in the bottom ofone bag. Well, guess what happened??? I big ol' jar of jelly fell out and landed smack dab in the middleofmy big toe. Can you say "kill me now?!?!" It hurt so so so bad. It still does as a matter of fact! Im not going to the dr till we get Stateside because I do not wanna fly {10 hrs} with a big ole cast on.Can you say uncomfortable???

Anyways, tomorrow we are going to Zacharys girlfriends early bday party. Her mama moved ot up JUSTso we couuld be there! How sweet right?!!?

So I will touch base with you all once we are back in the good old US of A!!!

Ducks In A Row

As the title suggest...our ducks are all in a row! Tickets are set, household goods are packing on the 25th and 26th, oyr van is shipping the 31st.....and we are outta this house on June 1st!!!

All day I was on a cleaning kick. I was Magic-eraser-ing all the walls.Man oh man, I'll tell ya....YUCK! I didnt realize just how bad the walls were until I started cleaning them. Dirty nasty little handprints everywhere!!! I went through 2 erasers on the kitchen cabinets and walls and I managed to get 4 out of the 8 walls in our hallway. Then, poof, Magic Eraser isn't so magic anymore. Dont get me wrong.....I LOVE it1 It gets out pen and crayon and even permanent marker.....things a regualr sponge wont touch, but there is one huge downside.
Once you get through cleaning everything like a crazy person, the eraser starts to crumble.

Booo.

I wish the awesome folks over at the lab would make a way for the crumbling to not happen.

---Anyways, I so did not intend do talk that much about the Magic Eraser. :)

Tomorrow is Field Day for Mikey and Zach. I remember last year when we went and it was just Mikey's field day.Now I have 2 boys who get to go! Unbelieveable. Im excited and cant wait to show you some pictures from the {sure to be awesome} day.

As for Michael and I, things are still the same. Civil. Seperate. {with the night time routine of watching a movie in bed together...not touching at all. Have you seen No strings attached with Ashton Kutcher and Natlie Portman?? If not please do! Its great!} It's weird. We love each other. I know it and so does he.....it just seems weird to not touch. No hugs, kisses or backrubs. No more I love you's or calling me baby {unless he "forgets" and calls me it}

It's a bittersweet feeling I tell you. But it's like my mama said to me.

This is a new chapter in our book.....its not the end of the book yet.

Thanks mama. I hope you are right!
Till next time folks!

June 6th

Yes, we have a day that Michael will report to GA. Hopefully thats not breaking any OPSEC rules or anything.....

Im excited.

Michael and I just got back from a counseling session. First time I have ever been to a therapist. Overall, he was very nice. He talked soothingly. {is that even a word??} I expected to do more talking to him,but he did a lot of talking.

I am okay today with the idea of seperating. It will do us both good and allow us to both grow and learn individually.

Thats just a really quick update,Ive gotta clean the house and get lunch going before I get the boys from school.

I PROMISE I will be back soon with a real post.

Till then.........

Incompatible

Thats what he say we are. He took his ring off last night.{yet still thinks its ok for us to have sheet time, if you catch my drift.}

Right. In his dreams.

He cannot just rip out my heart, stop on it then pick it back up and give it to me and expect everything to be okay. We are being civil for the kids. We will do all the things that a "normal" seperated husband and wife do.

Holidays, vacations etc. I will have the kids during the school year and he will take them during the summer....we each can go visit the kids when the other has them. It just feels like a dream. A baddd nightmare that I cant wake up from. Part of me sees how he feels that we would be better taking a break for a bit. It would benefit both of us greatly. The other part of me feels like we took vows. Ya know, for better or for worse?!?! Well this is the worse part right here folks. And he's bailing. I feel like we are being adandoned. Throw out. He says he needs no responsibility.

Ummm really. So sorry that we are a hinderance, pal. We just went to the PX here to get the kids some spring shirts. Of course this PX sucks and is way overpriced. So he says lets wait till you get to FL to get the kids tshirts. That way you can go to your consignment {which I do LOVE}

Ohhhhh okay. Awesome plan. We'll just send the boys to school in the 4 tshirts they have and thats fine. Sorry, Im venting.

Im o-v-e-r this drama. I hate the person I morph into whenever Im around him. I dont know if I should even be fighting for him...for us anymore. He's so clearly over it its not even funny. He says he loves and and is still in love with me, but that he needs to go and be by himselffor a while to get back to himself. Ya, but buy a house and have your mom and brother and sister in law and BABY move in. Good way to not make me feel like we're shit.

All I know is that I cant wait to get the fuck outta Germany and back to Fl so I can start to heal myself and these kids...cuz we all know these kids have underlying anxiety that they dont know about. {well, we know about Mikeys. Zach just told me "he's nervous" Great.}

Whatever folks. Whatever. I just dont know what to say anymore.

Seperation

Hi Folks

I write to you all this morning, heartbroken. michael and I have decided to seperate for a while.
We have had issues within our marriage for a few years now and each one of us is suffering. We both have issues we need to work through on our own before we can continue to be together. It's killing me inside. He is my love, my heart,my soul. We just have both hurt each other and are trying to "right fight" We each want the other one to see where we are coming from and that just isnt working. Michael has some 'army issues" that he is trying to work through as well. I realllly do not like the thought of this. Him and Ga and me in FL, but its what needs to happen right now. We are actually talking about things and we will be civil to each other for the kids. I mean after all, we do still love each other very much. It's not like we are forcing that.

It's just hard. Soo hard. I do have faith in our love and God so I know that in the long run this is going to be the best thing for us to nake our marriage stronger.

It just hurts like hell right now.

Kiss and Make Up

Yes, thats what we did! I realize I have to start putting his feelings a smidge before mine. Doing so will, hopefully make him put my feelings before his as well. This will in tuen make both of us happy.

Im assuming ( which I know makes an ass out of u and me) that since no one commented on yesterdays post, that no one wants to get in the middle of my marital issues. Understood. I guess Im a weird, cuz when someone posts something on their blog and asks for advice, I will give my advice.

My mom pointed out however that a lot of people try to stay out of personal business. To each is own, I suppose.

So I just wanted to let everyone know that we are good. We talked. I feel better. He feels better. We keep trying.
In other news, I just finished helping the hubs gather up all his TA-50 from storage and hauled it up 6 flights of stairs. He has a layout at 1400. I knew he had a lot of stuff, but man oh man....I swear that pile grows bigger and bigger in the dark! LOL. The stuff fills up six big green duffle bags! WOW!!!

Oh, BIG news! My Mikey has been "recruited" by the Science Club teacher to be in Science Club!!!!! She is going to save him a spot for next year!!! She said he is such a good boy and was sooo excited when he went into her classroom! She has even let him come to the after school meets until the end of the year!(which is June 17th)

He is beyond proud of himself and frankly, so am I!!!! He's going to do amazing at that club! YAY for my Dooders!

Not much else is going on 'round here. Steak and rice and carrots for dinner. MMM MMM MMM!

Mikey has no school Friday, so thats pretty nice. Saturday Im hoping the hubs will drive us out to Ramstein AFB to the two story PX. He leaves again on Sunday morning and will be gone till July 10th. We are in the process of detirmining where we are going to go for hubs block leave.

Options on the table? Italy and Greece. We definitely are going to go to France and Switzerland. Those are way close to us. France and about 2 or 3 hours away from us and Switerzland can't be more then 6 hours away. We want to go somewhere BIG. Far away. Exotic. LOL.(as if living is Europe isn't exotic enough!)

This week we are going over to the travel agent and see what she has to say! Soooo excited about that!!!

Ok, well I hope you all have a lovely lovely Wednesday and thanks for stopping by!

Cranky

                                                           Cranky is an understatment.

                                                                    *Warning*
This is about my marriage in a not so great way......hey, I need to vent and get advice. I try to not "air my dirty laundry" to you all in Blogland too often, so I think your about due the pleasure!!! ;)

Even though normally my husband and I get along pretty good, I must admit that there is some major work needing to be done on our marriage. Like two days ago, we got into it while I was making dinner. The whole issue we both have is that we BOTH feel unappreciated. I don't really understand how he feels unappreciated. I tell him that I appreciate him and I think I show him he's appreciated by basically being his maid. I cook, clean,do his laundry, clean up after him. Basically its like a 4th kid. I do it out of love and appreciation for him. So he doesn't have to.

He has always always had this attitude that what I do isn't valueable. I feel it's because I don't get paid. I wipe butts and snot and in his eyes, thats not real work. I have told him that yes, his work is more physical, but that doesn't mean it's more demanding then staying home with the kids.(of course his job is when he's at war!) Being a stay at home mom is emotionally draining. Its a fight everyday to remember the person I am.Ya know, not just a mom.

While I am excited to hopefully be getting a job soon (still no word yet other then my resume is being considered for the vacancy) I originally thought that maybe, just maybe that if I got a paying job then I would be good enough for my husband. Its a crushing, devistating kind of feeling to feel not good enough. For a while, I thought for a long, long time that it was my insecurity. I know now that Im not the one with the problem. He says he will help out with the kids and the cleaning once I start working, and I believe him. Well, I did believe him. I know that in the last 7 years of marriage (8years together)he hasn't really done any helping around the house. I do the fixing of things and bringing out the garbage. The "man" jobs. I like using tools and stuff but I shouldn't have to do it all...and if I am expected to, then damn it I want some appreciation for it! Is that too much to ask? Ive given so much to this man and honestly, Im tired. I think he will never see, or care to see my value. Does he even like me as a person? Doubt it. We've had this same.exact.conversation a handful of times throughout our marraige and it always always ends the same way....me mad and him acting like nothing is wrong.

I am writing this because I need advice.I think he should be seeing a doctor. No, really. He has agreed as well on this one. He has anxiety and heart palpulation thingys that are realted o his last deployment to Iraq. While I do feel this past deployment has brought us closer emotionally, I know we have a long long way to go still. Im worried about his upcoming to Afganastan. How much more can he handle before he snaps?

I think the reason he will not go get meds is because he's an NCO and doesn't want to be see as "weak" for needingnhelp. His soldiers look up to him. He's a wonderfuyl leader who truley cares about his men. I have always been here. Dealing with the constant unheavel of our family. Deployments, constant training, trips to the field..you name it. Im the one holding down the fort. Me. Yes, yes, he's fighting for our freedom. I get that. He's in danger.I get that too. Does he get the fact that I will have to be the one to tell our boys that something has happened to theor Daddy?(God forbid) I swear sometimes I feel like I married a kid. Other times, I am soooo in awe of his maturity and strength.

I know every marriage has its issues. This issue is always always always always a reoccuring one in ours. Its sucking the joy and life out of our relationship. Always butting heads. Not enough family time. Quality family time...partly due to the Army and partly due to the butting of the heads.

Where do I go from here? I know I love this man and that I am happy when we are happy. We just need a little tuning.

*************************
Anyways, its a gloomy day here (again) in Baumholder. I was tired as soon as I woke up. I think I am going to take a snooze when Hailey takes a snooze. Ahhhh the thought of my nice fluffy featherbed-ridden bed is sounding soooooooo lovely.

Mikey for the first time since he's been at school has asked me to pick him up. This requies me to walk a whole 5 minutes to his school. Awwww! He wants me to go get him. Normally he walks home by himself.(after much begging from him, I agreed) He's been on this big boy kick. This I can do it myself, mom kinda thing. *sigh* My baby is getting old.

Hailey is cutting 3 teeth that I can see...all at one time. The poor thing has been miserable for the last two days. Lucky for me, Zachary is her love. Whenever he's around, her little world iis just better. It's sweet.

Speaking of the devil...Zachary has been a terror for the last two days too. Maybe he's having sympathy pains for his sister and her incoming teeth. Who knows. Either way, Ive had my hands full...well at least according to me (and other moms who can relate!)

Okay, enough rambling. Im going to watch some boob tube!
Any advice would be more then welcomed!

Read this! It's important if you are married!!!!!!

To those who are married, .. Not married .. and soon to be married, I hope you will be touched with this story...
When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said, I've got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes. Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce.. I raised the topic calmly. She didn't seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why? I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man! That night, we didn't talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to Dew. I didn't love her anymore. I just pitied her! With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company. She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I had said for I loved Dew so dearly. Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now. The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something at the table. I didn't have supper but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Dew. When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again. In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn't want anything from me, but needed a month's notice before the divorce. She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a month's time and she didn't want to disrupt him with our broken marriage. This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day. She requested that everyday for the month's duration I carry her out of our bedroom to the front door ever morning.. I thought she was going crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd request. I told Dew about my wife's divorce conditions.. . She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce, she said scornfully.. My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mummy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don't tell our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the office. On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn't looked at this woman carefully for a long time.. I realized she was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I wondered what I had done to her. On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me. On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was growing again. I didn't tell Dew about this. It became easier to carry her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger. She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily. Suddenly it hit me... she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head. Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it's time to carry mum out. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day. But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, I hadn't noticed that our life lacked intimacy. I drove to office.... jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind...I walked upstairs. Dew opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Dew, I do not want the divorce anymore. She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead.. Do you have a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Dew, I said, I won't divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn't value the details of our lives, not because we didn't love each other any more. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart. Dew seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away. At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, I'll carry you out every morning until death do us apart. That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I run up stairs, only to find my wife in the bed - dead. The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the bank. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot give happiness in themselves. So find time to be your spouse's friend and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a real happy marriage! If you don't share this, nothing will happen to you. If you do, you just might save a marriage. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
