In other news, Friday we are going on another trip with ACS (Army Community Service) to Trier. Im wayy excited. Trier has ......

  • The Porta Nigra is a magnificent 2nd-century Roman city gate in Trier, Germany. It was given its name (which means "black gate") in the Middle Ages because of its weathered color.
History
The oldest defensive structure in Germany, the Porta Nigra was erected in about 180 AD when the Roman city was surrounded by walls. Trier was a Roman colony from the 1st century AD and then a great trading centre beginning in the second century. It became one of the imperial capitals under the Tetrarchy at the end of the 3rd century, and became known as the "second Rome."
The Porta Nigra is the only one of four Roman gates that still stands in Trier; the others were gradually pillaged for their stone and iron. The Porta Nigra survived because it was used as the humble residence of a hermit monk named Simeon for seven years (1028-35). After his death he was buried in the gate and the structure was transformed into the two-story Church of St. Simeon (lay church on the bottom, monastery church on top).
Napoleon destroyed the church in 1803, but the 12th-century Romanesque apse survived and the entire structure has been restored to its medieval appearance.

What to See
1,700 years after its construction, the Porta Nigra is still impressive at 118 feet long, 70.5 feet wide and 90 feet high. The entire structure is made without mortar - the sandstone blocks are connected only by iron rods. The stone blocks weigh as much as six metric tons each.
Two gateways lead into a small inner courtyard, where unfortunate intruders would be trapped and covered in tar. Above are two tiers of defense galleries with large open windows. It is flanked by two towers, a four-story western tower and the three-story unfinished eastern tower.
Inside, an empty apse at the east end and carvings of church fathers like Irenaeus, Ambrose and Jerome recall the Porta Nigra's use as a church.

Isn't that just wayyyy too cool???? I think so! Anways, as you can imagine, I will have pictures up probably this weekend sometime, so check back!

Oh, bad news.....I was not selected for the secretary position! :( Im not too bummed though cuz everything happens for a reason. that just means I keep up the search and that I get to spend more time with my 3 favorite kiddos.( and the hubs and my mom!!)

Went to the gym yesterday for the first tiime in forever. Did the bike and the treadmill. I set the tread mill to 12% incline and speed to 2.5 so i could feel the burn in the booty....and boy do I feel it today! LOL. As my BFF Selena and I like to say...."It's hurts sooooo good!" LOL.

We're having a bit of a new issue with my Mikey Pie. Let me start off by saying that he has been FULLY potty trained since he was 1. One people! (credit, my mom) This past week, when he gets home from school, he immediatly walks in, drops his bag and goes and puts on jammie pants. I thought he wanted to get comfy. Well, thats till I pick up his clothes to wash them and they were wet. I called him over and asked him if he peed his pants. He said no.I knew better. I asked him again and he said yes. I asked him why and he said it is because his teacher will not let him go to the bathroom when shes teaching. I asked him if he asked her to go after she was done teaching and he said no.

His words....."I have stress at school."

What??? Is it me or is that wayyyyy wrong that my seven year old is having stress about asking the teacher to go to the bathroom? I understand her reason for the rule, but if my kid needs to go, he will go!(he's a "teachers pet" type and we have never ever ever had any behavior problems with him in school!) Michael and I were going to head in there thins morning and talk to the principle.(This teacher is not great in my opinion...not even close and this isnt the first issue we have had with her.)

However, last night. He did it again. Here. At home. I called him over again and asked him what was up and why he peed again. He said he was trying to answer some trivia questions and he didn't know the answer and it made him nervous. He said he feels like he needs to pee when he gets scared or nervous or when he doesn't know whats going to happen next.

I asked him if anyone was touching him. His behavior is just such a drastic change for him, that I felt I had to rule it out. I told him that no one is allowed to do that and that if anyone asked him to or is, that I needed to know. He said no one was. I asked him "Pinky Promise?" (In our house, pinky promises DO NOT get broken. They just don't and the kids know the seriousiness of those promises)

Have any of you dealt with this? Any suggesstions on how to help him cope? He's very hard on him self. A people pleaser and over-achiever. I told him to not be so hard on himself and that he has to try really really hard to not pee in his pants. That if he needs to go to the bathroom, he needs to go.

Even if the teacher says no. We told him to ask once. if she says no then wait a few minutes and ask again. If she still says no, Michael and I told him to get up and go to the bathroom. The office will then, Im sure, call us.

Which Im looking forward to honestly. Bring it teachers. bring it. I miss his old school in Kansas. The school and the teachers were so comitted to teaching. UGH. Hopefully next year will be better. im cutting Mrs. kelly a break b/c we came at the end of the year......If next year isnt better, we are going to have issues.

Just sayin.

Anyways, Im going to get going. Shower time and then out to enjoy the sun and warmth. Hope you all have a great day and as always thanks for stopping by!!!
