My Fix #1 How I fixed it:
1.Layer>Duplicate Layer
2.Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Brightness/Contrast
( I played around with the controls till I was happy with how she looked)
3.Layer>Adjustment Layer>Levels
(Ibrought the black slider on the left down a bit to clear out the fuzziness)
4.Layer>New Adjustment layer>Brightness/Contrast
(again, played around with the controls)
5.Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Hue/Saturation
(do you see a patern developing??? PLAY WITH THE CONTROLS!)
6.Lastly,I grabbed the sponge tool and lightly saturated her lips to bring out the pretty pink in them.)
7. Flatten and save!

I like your first edit. :)
Wow...you are so talented at this! I love them both and how creative that you flipped the pic in the 2nd one. Really changes the look of it!
